Bahia’s victory over Avaí Kindermann, this Tuesday (17), which led to the leadership of group A of the Ladies Cup, was marked by a xenophobic speech by narrator Anderson Cheni, from Canal GOAT.
During the broadcast of the duel, played at the Canindé stadium, in São Paulo, Anderson Cheni stated that the Esquadrão’s appreciation of ball possession was “Bahian laziness”. The tricolor held the result in the final minutes.
“Two and a half to end the game. And then that Bahian laziness to value the ball and let time pass. It’s the ball that has to run and not Bahia”, said Cheni.
After the episode, the narrator was the target of protests on social media. Anderson Cheni justified the phrase by stating that the expression would also be valid if Avaí were holding the result.
“When I say laziness, I mean it’s unhurried, slow. If Avaí were winning, they would also be lazy, slow. Laziness can come from any team, which as long as it’s winning will value the ball”, he stated.
In a note published on its official channels, Bahia regretted the narrator’s statements.
