The text recommends that activists avoid using electoral expressions, citing as examples: “it’s Lula again” or “it’s Lula 2026.”
The Workers’ Party (PT) released a booklet advising its members to avoid electoral demonstrations during the parade at a samba school that pays homage to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Sunday, 15th, in Rio.
The text recommends that activists avoid using electoral expressions, citing as examples: “it’s Lula again” or “it’s Lula 2026.” It also advises that materials or prints not be used associating the president with PT’s number 13, or with references to the elections.
“The event is a cultural manifestation, and any electoral activity is prohibited at this time. It is essential, therefore, that all participants are attentive and remain focused on the great popular and spontaneous celebration of Carnival”, says the booklet published this Saturday.
On social media, the Rio PT made a similar publication, advising members to avoid advertising. “No vote request, no ballot box number, no electoral slogan, no electoral campaign. The legislation is clear and we cannot leave room for questions or penalties”, says the note from the party’s Rio directory.
The concern is to avoid any characterization of the Acadêmicos de Niterói school parade as early electoral propaganda. Lula is expected to run for re-election this year. But, according to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) calendar, campaigning is only allowed from August 15th.
The school’s samba pays homage to the life of Lula, who will attend the parade this Sunday. The theme is: “from the top of the mulungu comes hope: Lula, the worker of Brazil.”
On Friday, the 13th, the Planalto Palace instructed government ministers not to participate in the parade in honor of the president. The recommendation is that assistants interested in attending the event accompany the president in the Sapucaí box.
The TSE has already denied requests to block the Acadêmicos de Niterói parade in honor of Lula. But, despite the refusal to prevent the parade from taking place, the action continues and could lead to punishment if the parade violates any electoral rules.
