Summer is already knocking on the door. Many girls and women want to show off their best figure in a swimsuit and are therefore often willing to make drastic dietary interventions and follow strict diets from day to day. Actress and former presenter of Let’s Dance Martina “Maca” Zábranská in marquis she bluntly admitted that she herself has a lot of experience with such things. In her case, there was much more behind it, and the debate took an unexpected turn.
“I also had a period, in my opinion, during Mom for Rent, when it fluctuated and jumped, because I basically don’t struggle with it… struggle is such a stupid word, but I have to guard it. In my opinion, everyone has to think about it a little throughout their life, that it is such a lifelong goal,” Zábranská began.
She then remembered her elementary school days. “But when I was little, I was really chubby and I didn’t care. I enjoyed life. I was still laughing,” she said, gradually realizing it. Weight had an effect on how her peers treated her. According to her own words, she was the only one who was not invited to dance at a disco during school in nature.
The turning point came in puberty. In high school, she started dieting, exercising and running in a big way. The whole thing was started by a cruel remark from one of the classmates, who told Zábranská that she had a pretty face, but it was impossible to look at her otherwise. “It shakes the little girl’s world a bit, but I’m not surprised at all. If I showed you my photos, you’d say the same,” thinks the actress.
Her words deeply affected Telerán moderator Matúš Krnčok, who noted that such harsh remarks at a sensitive age can have serious consequences in the form of eating disorders. Zábranská frankly admitted that this was exactly her problem. “I speak openly about it, because it is already in the past and I think it is very fundamental, and it does not hurt me to talk about it,” she explained.
The brunette added that she went through different diets during that period. “Even on crackers I functioned. Ketosis by eating only proteins. Only then, in the long run, do those drastic swings in that little body’s development result in you suddenly having a day where you overeat. And then come the regrets. Then comes bulimia and suddenly… now what? Regrets for putting it out there. Then you comfort yourself again, and actually it’s some kind of strange cycle,” she said without embellishment.
Zábranská got out of it, but she doesn’t have a magic recipe for it. “It was just that I told myself I had to” she stated. She did not solve her problem with her family, even though she realizes in retrospect that she could have done it. She emphasized that the bulimic is ashamed and does not want to point it out.
Mac was internally troubled that she was harming herself in this way and confided in her friends. That’s when she found out that she was not alone and that other girls were struggling with the same problem. “I decided to fight it and not make myself feel guilty like that anymore. I started reading a lot about it and found out you can damage your organs and stuff,” she shared about the things that opened her eyes and she was able to deal with it.
Today, the actress and presenter is proud of her enviable figure, which she already maintains in a healthy way. “First of all, I eat. Paradoxically, you have to eat, which I realized. I avoid refined sugars, but I will also have them here and there, or some semi-finished products and chemically modified things. Mainly I incorporated movement into my life,” she added, stressing that you should exercise regularly, not just once in a while and do nothing in between.
