The latest recalculations of meteorological numerical models bring even more disturbing news for Slovakia than the initial estimates showed. The coming days will not be just an ordinary attack on the previous historical highs, but the situation may escalate to hitherto unknown extremes. , a huge heat dome is moving over central Europe and the Balkans, which previously ravaged the western part of the continent.
- A massive thermal dome is moving from Western Europe over Slovakia.
- In Slovakia, there is a threat of extremely warm days and nights.
- The west of Slovakia will experience a maximum temperature on Sunday, the east again on Monday.
- In the south and southeast of Slovakia, temperatures can reach up to 41 degrees.
In Western Europe, the mercury on the thermometer rose to a scorching 40 to 45 °C in recent days, and the heat wave left dozens of victims there. Now this gigantic mass of heated air will settle directly over our region, which means that the Slovak national record is in immediate danger. Temperatures can reach values that we have never seen before in Slovakia.
The hidden danger of the weekend will be the fact that the heat will not subside even after sunset. We are expecting extremely warm nights, during which the temperature in the most affected areas will not drop below 25 °C and will only rarely fall below 20 °C. For the human organism, this means a huge burden, as the body does not get a chance to regenerate at night, and it will be very difficult to cool down the heated interiors of dwellings.
However, the real peak of this heat wave will occur during the day. Western Slovakia will reach its absolute peak on Sunday, while residents of the eastern part of the country will experience the hottest day on Monday. Forecasts currently indicate values that meteorology in our territory has never experienced before. The models no longer end at the traditional forty, but openly calculate with a value of up to 41 °C.
This historical extreme threatens on Sunday on the eastern edge of the Danube Plain, especially in the locations of Štúrovo, Hurbanovo and Mužla. At the beginning of the new week, the heat will move to the south-east of the country, where thermometers in the Trebišov and Somotora areas should also attack the 41°C mark, which will seriously threaten the current Slovak maximum of 40.3°C.
Moreover, temperatures reaching 40 °C will not be limited to the traditionally warmest south, but will also unexpectedly affect more northern regions, such as Považie and Upper Ponitry. According to estimates, gradual cooling will occur only during the next week.
