Venezuela releases 17 more political prisoners

President of the National Assembly, opposition party Vente Venezuela and NGO Clippve confirmed the fact; government did not respond

The president of the National Assembly, (PSUV, left), stated that at least 17 political prisoners were released this Saturday (14.Feb.2026) in the Bolivarian National Police detention center known as Zone 7, in the metropolitan region of Caracas, the country’s capital.

“Based on the Amnesty Law, 17 people deprived of their liberty in Zone 7 were released at this time. We continue on this path towards building a democratic coexistence between brothers. All united for peace!”wrote Rodríguez.

The releases took place 2 days after Venezuelan politicians postponed the discussion on one that contemplates judicial pardon and the release of people detained for political reasons, in addition to the suspension of processes and sanctions associated with these cases.

Both A and A stated that family members of political prisoners who remain detained there are carrying out a hunger strike to press for the release of these citizens.

Family members reported that, this Saturday, February 14th, starting at 6am, they joined the hunger strike that began yesterday, February 13th, by political prisoners detained in Boleíta, Zone 7, to demand the release of all people held in that unit, as promised by Jorge Rodríguez on February 6th.

During the early hours of this Saturday, only 17 people were released, out of a total of more than 50 political prisoners who remain detained in that center.”.
