Hood filters easily accumulate grease and, when not cleaned regularly, they can compromise the functioning of the appliance and leave persistent odors in the kitchen. There is, however, a home method that does not require intense physical effort and specific products, and which has been widely shared on social media due to its effectiveness.
The technique was demonstrated by Anabela, content creator of the page on the social network Instagram, who showed how it is possible to remove ingrained fat using common ingredients that many people already have at home.
The method that avoids rubbing
According to the video shared by the content creator, the first step is to remove the filters from the hood and place them in a wide container, such as a bowl or a basin of suitable size.
Then add baking soda and washing up liquid directly onto the filters. Meanwhile, you must bring water to boil. When the water is boiling, add cleaning vinegar to the mixture already placed on the filters.
Only then do you pour hot water over the mixture, completely covering the pieces. The reaction between bicarbonate and vinegar helps to release accumulated fat, forming foam.
Just shake the filters slightly to help loosen the dirt and let it act for around five to ten minutes, until the foam disappears.
The final step in the dishwasher
After this process, the filters must be placed in the dishwasher, on a high temperature program, ideally 70 degrees.
According to the same source, this step removes the last traces of grease and leaves the filters practically dry, ready to be installed again in the hood.
The creator also recommends taking the opportunity to clean the inside of the hood with a microfiber cloth and a simple solution made up of equal parts dish detergent and cleaning vinegar.
There is also an additional suggestion that can make the entire process simpler. Before starting cleaning, you can boil water with lemon slices for a few minutes.
The steam released helps to soften the grease accumulated inside the hood, making it easier to remove later.
Why it is important to clean filters regularly
The accumulation of grease on filters is not just an aesthetic issue. It can reduce the ability to extract fumes and odors and, in more extreme cases, increase the risk of the appliance malfunctioning.
Periodic cleaning, carried out using simple and accessible methods, can extend the life of your hood and maintain a healthier kitchen environment.
Without resorting to expensive products or intense scrubbing, this homemade trick shows that, with a few basic ingredients and a little organization, it is possible to restore your hood filters to a practically new appearance in just a few minutes.
