Planes that were scheduled to land at the location had to be redirected and flights were canceled.
Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) was closed twice this Sunday afternoon (15) due to the presence of drones. The closure of airspace for commercial and private flights took place around 4 pm and operations only resumed two hours later. The airport’s press office did not say how many flights were affected.
During this interval, flights scheduled to land in Guarulhos were redirected. There were also cancellations.
The Military Police were called by the Guarulhos International Airport Control Center to investigate the presence of at least eight drones that were flying over the aircraft take-off and landing route. The Special Operations Command (COE) used a signal jammer to restore security at the site.
In a statement, the airport reinforced that the use of drones in the vicinity of the airport site puts aviation safety and the integrity of people at risk.
