Niterói Academics car reproduces impeachment scene in Sapucaí this Sunday (15.Feb.2026)
One of the floats displayed, on Sunday night (Feb 15, 2026), the inauguration of (PT) and, subsequently, a doll representing (MDB) taking the presidential sash.
The scene was part of the parade that honors the president (PT) in the 2026 Carnival. The school took to Marquis of Sapucaí o “From the top of the mulungu comes hope: Lula, the worker of Brazil”.
Dilma was impeached in 2016, at the end of a process approved by the National Congress. At the time, Temer, then vice-president, took command of the Executive and remained in the position until 2018.
The allegory makes up the sector that addresses recent political episodes and moments of institutional crisis. Acadêmicos debuts this year in the Rio de Janeiro Special Group.

LULA AT SAPUCAÍ
A debut in the Rio Carnival Special Group with one about: “From the top of the mulungu comes hope: Lula, the worker of Brazil”.
Mulungu is a tree native to Brazil, found mainly in the Caatinga and Atlantic Forest. Its scientific name is Erythrina velutina. It can reach up to 15 meters in height. The plant produces red flowers from August to January, during which time it is leafless. The origin of the name comes from Tupi “mussungu” or “white”, with possible African etymological roots related to the meaning of “tambourine”.
Founded in 2018, the school participated in only 3 carnivals before winning the Gold Series (former Access Group), in 2025, and being promoted to the elite group of Rio’s carnival. It will compete with traditional associations from Rio de Janeiro, such as Mangueira, Portela and Salgueiro.

The opposition criticized:
- Novo – the party filed a representation with the TCU to ask that Acadêmicos de Niterói not receive the transfer of R$ 1 million from (Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion). The technical area of the Court of Auditors. The final decision was made by the case’s rapporteur, Aroldo Cedraz, who denied the request to suspend the transfer;
- Damares Alves and Kim Kataguiri – a (Republicans-DF) and the (Brazil-SP Union) took action against the president because of the association’s plot. Both went through the Federal Court;
- New and Kim Kataguiri – filed a request to ban the parade. The injunction by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). The Court followed the vote of the rapporteur, Estella Aranha, who was by Lula to the position.
The choice of the plot was not the only controversy faced by the Rio de Janeiro association. THE Poder360 showed on February 5 that the school’s president, Wallace Palhares, was from the position of assistant at Alerj (Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro).
