Vidal (Comunes) calls to avoid “past mistakes” in the left alliance
The spokesperson for En Comú Podem in Congress, Aina Vidal, has explained that the left-wing alliance initiative in which her party participates together with IU, Movimiento Sumar and Más Madrid, which will be presented on February 21, seeks to “correct errors of the past”, in reference to the Sumar coalition since, in its creation, a leader, the Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, was thought of first before the content. “I know they ask us otherwise, but we want to talk first about what we want to do and how to do it and then about who should lead.” “It is a more solid way to build the house, learn from the mistakes of the past and do it better this time,” he said in an interview on TVE.
In the midst of the debate on the alliance of the formations on the left of the PSOE for the next general elections to confront the rise of the extreme right, Vidal has invited Gabriel Rufián, who has led a movement for this alliance, to join the one that the four groups that make up the Sumar coalition have already been debating for “months.” “The four parties that are in the Government have the unequivocal will to stand together in the elections, those of us who want are there, but there are many missing that we would like to be there, this is an invitation to other left-wing parties that want to join and transform this country, that are not satisfied with just stopping the extreme right,” he said.
He has pointed out that in this case, they first want to establish the political objectives—“raise the minimum wage, regulate rents, raise pensions, transform Spain”—and then talk about leadership, considering that in the configuration of the Sumar coalition “there were errors.” In that sense, he has stated that the intention this time, despite the pressure to speak from a leader, is to “learn from past mistakes and do better”, because the situation now, unlike 2023, “the challenge is greater, the risk [de avance de la ultraderecha] It is enormous and the geopolitical complexity of the world has changed, it is on fire.” In this situation, she asks for “seriousness” and not “wanting to deceive the staff.” “You don’t live by wills, but by solid things, and that is what we are trying,” she said, reaffirming that the four groups that present their candidacy on Saturday have been “shooting for months” in that alliance. “It is worth communicating that we are understanding each other, that this is going well, that we are going together and that we want to be more.”
Once the “foundations” were planted, he has spoken of some type of vote to ratify a leader. “We will decide it together, it will be a democratic proposal, we will all have to be able to speak. There are still people to arrive and, when the time comes, we will decide,” he clarified. In this sense, he has reiterated that Rufián is “very invited” to his presentation event and has announced that they will be at Rufián’s, on the 18th.
