The Brazilian film “The Secret Agent” won yet another award this Sunday night, the 15th. This time, the Brazilian film by Kleber Mendonça Filho received the trophy for Best International Film at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Adolpho Veloso, another Brazilian representative in the dispute, won the best photography category for his work on “Sonhos de Trem”. The Spirit Awards are considered the main independent film awards in the United States.
“The Secret Agent” surpassed “All That Remains of You” (Cherien Dabis), “On Becoming a Guinea Fowl” (Rungano Nyoni), “Um Poeta” (Simón Mesa Soto) and “Sirát” (Oliver Laxe).

Veloso was ahead of Alex Ashe (Peter Hujar’s Day), Norm Li (Blue Sun Palace), David J. Thompson (Warfare) and Nicole Hirsch Whitaker (Dust Bunny).
Brazil at Oscar 2026
“The Secret Agent” competes for the Oscar on March 15th. The film is nominated in the categories of best film, best actor (Wagner Moura), best international film and best cast. Veloso is present on the list of nominees for best photography.
