The Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, leaves the room
There were times when people felt “very lonely”. Pedro Duarte highlights the “media spectacle” that takes place in Portugal.
Maria Lucia Amaral she was the Minister of Internal Administration but, after mistakes in communication and constant criticism, she could not resist and last week.
Pedro Duarte, also a former minister under the Government of Luís Montenegro, now admits that this choice “was a casting error“.
“It was clearly a casting error by a person who has immense qualities: in addition to academic, professional and technical qualities, I think he has exceptional human qualities”, begins by analyzing the president of the Porto City Council.
“However, nowadays, a minister must have some characteristics, namely from the point of view of public communication, which are inevitable”, he added.
Pedro Duarte said that there was a “Inadaptation to the media world” by Maria Lúcia Amaral. But “this is not a defect, but a characteristic”.
Alexandra Leitão agrees but warns that the former minister “you can’t be the scapegoat” everything in relation to bad weather: there were times when people felt “very alone”, he laments.
“There was [entre] ten days to two weeks where people felt very lonely. Naturally, it got better during the flood phase last week, with everyone going to Coimbra. But there is no second chance to make a good first impression”, analyzed the former deputy.
Pacheco Pereira summarizes: the former minister was “bad actress” for the media “spectacle”.
“I don’t know what the minister did specifically, but going into the field is often not the best solution. The Minister of Internal Administration is not compatible with what the media scenario is today. Everything is a spectacle and, when everything is a spectacle, we have good actors or we have bad actors. I don’t know what the minister did or didn’t do, but clearly she was a bad actress for this type of mechanism”, commented the social democrat.
