Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, declared this Tuesday (17) that the latest round of talks with the United States (USA) was constructive and that the “general guidelines” for a pact had been agreed.
Araghchi says the progress made in negotiations does not mean his country will soon reach an agreement with Washington over Iran’s nuclear program. “The path to an agreement has begun,” he said, but the two parties still have topics to be worked on, in their first statements after the conclusion of the second round of nuclear negotiations with the USA, in Geneva. “I can say that compared to the last round, we had very serious discussions and a constructive environment in which we exchanged our views,” he told reporters.
He also stated that consensus on fundamental principles is increasingly concluded, but that the process tends to take longer. “These ideas were discussed and we reached some fundamental agreements and principles. Based on these principles, we will draw up a document… We are hopeful that we will succeed. When we reach the document drafting stage, the process will naturally slow down”, he explained.
The chancellor stated that a date has not been set for the next round of dialogue.
