The first leg of the Champions League playoff between Benfica and Real Madrid was interrupted for a few minutes this Tuesday (17), in Lisbon, after striker Vinicius Junior reported having been the target of racist insults from Argentine Gianluca Prestianni. The Spanish team won 1-0.
The Brazilian scored the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half, with a right shot, and in celebration he provoked fans at Estádio da Luz. The reaction sparked an argument with Benfica players and resulted in a yellow card issued by French referee François Letexier.
Before the match resumed, Vinicius addressed the referee and pointed to Prestianni when reporting the episode. Letexier interrupted the game for a few minutes, but ordered the restart without applying other disciplinary sanctions.
In the final stretch of the game, the Brazilian was also the target of objects thrown by Benfica fans while trying to take a corner.
The two teams will face each other again on the 25th, in Spain.
