Golem Grad (Macedonian for “big city”) is an island of just 18 hectares. It is located in the Great Prespa Lake at the border triangle of North Macedonia, Albania and Greece. The island essentially consists of a forested plateau surrounded by steep cliffs. Golem Grad is also known as Snake Island because of the numerous water snakes found in the lake.
