Chief Risk Officer Bernd Spalt is turning his back on the German Commerzbank “for personal reasons” and returning to Vienna. The former boss of Erste Group, who moved to Frankfurt in 2023, will not extend his contract, which expires at the end of the year, and will move his life back to Vienna. According to Commerzbank supervisory board chairman Jens Weidmann, Spalt is doing “excellent work on the board.” The control committee would have liked to extend the contract, as the Handelsblatt reported.
