Major mining accident: A gas explosion claimed dozens of lives!

At least 38 miners were killed in a gas explosion at a lead mine in Plateau State, central Nigeria. local sources told AFP. Another 27 workers were injured, writes TASR. The gas explosion occurred in the Kampanin Zurak mine, said a representative there. “It is true that so far 38 have been confirmed dead and around 27 others have been taken to hospital,” he said.

According to one of the miners who worked in a nearby shaft, the explosion occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. local time.This West African country has experienced similar fatal mining accidents in the past. At least 18 people were killed in the northwestern state of Zamfara when a gold mine collapsed during heavy rains in September.
