Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s best-known victims, was responsible for the accusation that resulted in the loss of all titles, military ranks, honors and official functions of the British crown of former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, arrested this Thursday, 19.
The British crown’s distancing from public life came after the repercussions of sexual crime allegations exposed by Virginia in 2019.
According to her, the abuse occurred on three occasions, all when she was 17 years old, and involved the intervention of Epstein, convicted of sexual exploitation of minors, with whom Andrew maintained a close relationship for years. The former prince has always denied the accusations.

In 2021, Virginia filed a civil case against Andrew in the United States, which was settled in February 2022 through an undisclosed financial settlement without him admitting guilt. She committed suicide in April 2025, aged 41, in Australia.
This Thursday, Virginia’s family released a statement celebrating the former prince’s arrest, stating that the decision reinforces that “no one is above the law – not even royalty”. The note also thanked Thames Valley Police for their work in the investigation and highlighted that Virginia’s legacy serves as an inspiration to survivors around the world.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to the public broadcaster BBC. He is being investigated by Thames Valley Police after a tip-off about allegedly sharing confidential material with Epstein.
