Macron invites Lula to participate in the G-7 Summit

Event will take place in Évian-les-Bains, France, from June 15th to 17th

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, officially invited President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to participate in the next G-7 Summitthe group that brings together some of the world’s main economies. The invitation was formalized this Thursday (19), during a bilateral meeting between the two heads of state in New Delhi, India.

This year, the G7 meeting will be hosted by France itself and is scheduled to take place on June 15th and 16th, in the city of Evian-les-Bains. Lula and Macron met on the sidelines of the 4th Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit, an event organized by the government of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

In addition to the invitation, Lula and Macron discussed the deepening bilateral cooperation in areas such as defense, science and technology. They also dealt with combating transnational crimes in the border region between the state of Amapá and French Guiana, an overseas territory of France. Among the challenges cited are drug trafficking and illegal mining.

In the economic area, the two presidents highlighted the growth of trade between the countries. According to the federal government, bilateral exchange reached US$10.3 billion last year, considered a record in the commercial relationship between Brazil and France.

The leaders also talked about global topics, such as international security and the impacts of artificial intelligence, the main topic of the event held in the Indian capital.
