World leaders meet with Lula at AI summit

Macron, Sánchez and other heads of state publish photos with the Brazilian president during the IA Impact Summit

Leaders from Europe and Asia published photos and messages with the president (PT) during the event, held this Thursday (Feb 19), in New Delhi. The event is part of the so-called ““, an annual series of intergovernmental meetings on governance, security and global cooperation in AI (artificial intelligence).

The meeting brings together representatives from 50 countries and around 40 thousand participants. Among those present are political leaders and executives from companies such as Google (), (Sam Altman), Anthropic (Dario Amodei), Nvidia () and DeepMind (), in addition to the UN Secretary General, .

As shown by the Poder360one of Lula’s objectives in India is to bring countries from the so-called Global South to the stage of discussions about AI. The Brazilian government does not want the path of nuclear energy to be repeated: rich countries created what Brazilian diplomats call the “club of those responsible” and left poor countries without access to the technology.

Here’s what the world leaders’ posts were like with Lula:

  1. Emmanuel Macron, President of France: a photo with Lula and wrote “happy to see my friend again”, who are united in protecting children from the dangers of AI and social media.
  2. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka: photos of the bilateral meeting with Brazil and Lula. He called the meeting fruitful.
  3. Andrej Plenkovic, Prime Minister of Croatia: photos with Lula and wrote that Brazil is an important “global actor” and cited the “numerous Croatian community that lives in Brazil”.
  4. Petteri Orpo, Prime Minister of Finland: published a photo on stories on Instagram and wrote: “I also met with the president of Brazil”.
  5. Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain: published a story hugging Lula, but didn’t write anything.

Despite being a new technology for the public — and on which many countries are still seeking regulation —, the average age of those present is 59.7 years old. The Brazilian president, in fact, is the oldest among the participants, at 80 years old. Although he assumed the Presidency for the first time in 2003, this is his debut in a meeting of this type.
