MPF files complaint against Bolsonaro for alleged crimes during the pandemic

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) filed an investigation request against former president Jair Bolsonaro for alleged crimes committed during the pandemic, such as genocide, and for misuse of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), due to lack of evidence.

The case, filed through a complaint at the Citizen Assistance Room, accused the Bolsonaro family of drug trafficking, involvement with militias, corruption, poisoning of authorities, political persecution and an attack on the democratic order.

For the MPF, the statement sent was opinionated in nature, criticizing the government and moral assessments of the conduct of Bolsonaro and his children, which does not constitute proof.

MPF files complaint against Bolsonaro for alleged crimes during the pandemic

“From the analysis of the records, this body finds that there is no reason to initiate criminal prosecution based on the facts, considering that the information presented is non-specific and generic”, highlights an excerpt from the decision signed by Public Prosecutor Luciana Furtado de Moraes on January 23.

Once the case is closed, the complainant will have ten days to file an appeal.
