The management (Republicans) sent this Thursday (19) a letter to the Ministry of Mines and Energy demanding a deadline for completing a process initiated by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) that could lead to the expiration of the concession.
In the document, signed by secretaries Natália Resende (Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics) and Rafael Benini (Investment Partnerships), the government says that it has sent the agency since last year several letters demanding action in relation to the service provided by the company, classified as “below minimum acceptable levels of quality”.
“It was also highlighted the recurrence of failures that highlight structural deficiencies in preventive maintenance, insufficient investments in the modernization and renewal of the network, as well as the inadequacy of the concessionaire’s personnel. It was also highlighted the ineffectiveness of the penalties applied to date to induce the company’s appropriate conduct and the concrete risk of new crises in the electricity distribution system in the concession area”, say the secretaries.
Tarcísio and the mayor of , Ricardo Nunes (MDB), have been pressuring the federal government to break the contract with Enel, citing frequent blackouts following climate events and delays in restoring the system. The decision will be taken by the ministry, following a recommendation from Aneel.
