Authors Fabio Giambiagi and Arlete Nese show the usefulness of the economic bias in analyzing facts
Economists Fabio Giambiagi and Arlete Nese launch this Friday (20.Feb.2026) the book “” (AltaCult, 272 pages).
The book explores the usefulness of economic concepts and techniques for understanding everyday facts and broader themes of politics and development.
The idea is to serve as a guide for young people considering professional training in . Also for those who have another profession and seek to expand their knowledge.
Colloquial text emulates a conversation. There are examples, analogies and phrases from historical characters.
Basic concepts such as GDP (Gross Domestic Product), inflation and demography are presented in a didactic manner. The life and ideas of the Austrian economist Joseph Schumpeter (1883-1950) are told in 5 pages. He used the term “creative destruction” in reference to the need in capitalism to constantly innovate. There is also information about other reference authors.
The book shows the importance of mathematics for understanding economic relationships. One example is how compound interest increases savings or debt. Another is how to calculate the real increase in salary or a product, discounting inflation.
There is information about China’s trajectory. Also an analysis of the development of Brazil in the first half of the 20th century. It is something that Giambiagi explored in the book “Tocqueville’s Revenge”, from 2025.
