Visible matter is in short supply in our universe. It only makes up about five percent. The rest is probably made up of dark matter (about 23 percent) and dark energy (about 72 percent). Galaxies are also dominated by dark matter and energy that are difficult to detect – like our Milky Way: around 80 percent of their total mass consists of dark matter, i.e. matter that does not reflect, emit or absorb light.
