Mandelson arrested over Epstein ties. The police are investigating the abuse of official power and the leakage of sensitive information

London police have detained former ambassador Peter Mandelson on suspicion of abuse of office, while police investigate his links to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The investigation began after the revelation of emails proving Mandelson’s contacts with Epstein even after his conviction.

London police on Monday arrested former UK ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson on suspicion of abuse of office in connection with his ties to the poor sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the Reuters and AP agencies.

  • Police in London arrested former ambassador Mandelson.
  • He is suspected of abuse of office because of Epstein.
  • He was dismissed after friendly contacts with Epstein were made public.

“Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of abuse of authority,” London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Suspicions on Mandelson

Mandelson was removed from his diplomatic post in September following the release of emails that showed he maintained a friendship with Epstein even after he was convicted in 2008 of sex crimes against a minor.

As more details emerged in documents released by the US Department of Justice last month, police launched a criminal investigation into suspicions that he passed sensitive government information to Epstein 15 years ago.

Arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

His arrest comes four days after police arrested the former Prince Andrew, now Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, on suspicion of a similar offense linked to his friendship with Epstein.
