The senator called a meeting for this Wednesday (25) to promote a tidying up brake in the PL, after a series of announcements were made public. The presidential candidate, according to allies, wants to make the campaign hierarchy clear and put an end to disputes involving family members and party leaders. He denies that there will be “ear-pulling”.
Flávio has a meeting at 3pm, at the PL headquarters, with the party’s benches in the Chamber and Senate. According to interlocutors, there is an expectation of framing, mainly so that leaders who visit former president Jair Bolsonaro in jail do not make conflicting statements about candidacies in the states.
Interlocutors claim that Flávio wants to organize the house and stop the fights, imposing order. As shown by Sheetthat internal disputes in the Bolsonaro family and in the PL hinder negotiations and damage the image of a moderate that the senator is trying to build.
Despite this, Flávio denies that the meeting will take place to scold his party colleagues. “Start putting the word in my mouth, it’s not an ear grab. I think it’s just to present it once again, […] tell them all that our idea is to talk to the leaders of each state to make the right decisions”, he said.
The senator added: “It’s more a gesture of respect for them than the other way around. […] I want them to feel more and more like they belong to this project. […] There is no point voting just for the President of the Republic. Senators and deputies who are 100% aligned with us must also vote. So the conversation will be more on that level”
In recent days, Flávio has seen his brothers publicly attack central figures in the party. The former deputy criticized the deputy and the former first lady), while the former councilor argued with the party’s president, Valdemar Costa Neto.
According to a person close to Flávio, the senator will take advantage of the next few days to try to bring order to the acronym. The idea is to make it clear that Bolsonaro chose him as the new captain and that the direction will be given by him. In other words, the senator will try to centralize information and decisions.
Previously, Flávio has already worked to mediate internal fights. He contained his brother Eduardo’s barbs against the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), who was tipped to run for Planalto. Now, according to interlocutors, he is also working to resolve the former deputy’s dispute with Nikolas Ferreira.
Flávio and Nikolas will be together at the Bolsonarist demonstration called for next Sunday (1st), in a gesture that aims to signal unity after Eduardo accused the deputy of not dedicating himself to the senator’s pre-campaign.
Allies also believe that a resolution of the dispute between Carlos and Valdemar will be possible. Regarding Michelle, they believe that it is necessary to “give it time”, given what they consider to be the former first lady’s “hurt” for having been left in the dark in the process that led to Flávio being announced as Bolsonaro’s candidate.
SANTA CATARINA
According to PL leaders, Flávio will also have a separate meeting with the governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello, and the pre-candidates for PL senator in the state, former Rio councilor Carlos Bolsonaro and deputy Caroline de Toni. The Santa Catarina bench should also participate.
The idea is to put an end to PL divergences in Santa Catarina. Bolsonaro shuffled the chessboard in Santa Catarina by displacing Carlos, a former councilor from Rio de Janeiro, to run for the state senate. Jorginho Mello wanted to support the re-election of Esperidião Amin (PP), but as candidates his own son and deputy Caroline de Toni, who also has Michelle’s support.
PP chiefs have placed the PL’s support for Esperidião’s re-election as a prerequisite for the party’s eventual national support for Flávio’s campaign.
After the meeting with the leaders of Santa Catarina, an official announcement of the ticket that will contest the election in the state with the support of Flávio is expected. It would be a meeting along the same lines as the senator’s meeting with leaders from Rio de Janeiro, which ended with the announcement of the names that will contest the majority election.
