“The war in Ukraine has no military solution”, says Marco Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this Wednesday (25) that the war in Ukraine “does not have a military solution”, arguing that only negotiations can end the conflict and positioning Washington as the indispensable mediator.

“The government continues to increase pressure on Moscow. As an example, President [Donald Trump] imposed additional sanctions late last year on its oil company, Rosneft. The government continues to sell weapons to Ukraine. We don’t sell weapons to Russia and we don’t sanction Ukraine,” he said.

“We are the only country or the only entity on the planet that has managed to get Russian and Ukrainian negotiators to sit down at the table and talk to each other,” he concluded.

Rubio’s comments came on the same day that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after a phone call with Trump, said Kiev hopes the next round of trilateral talks in March on a deal will pave the way for a meeting between the leaders.
