Actor Eric Dane, who died on February 19 at the age of 53, recorded a final message for his daughters a month before his death. The “Grey’s Anatomy” star has died 10 months after announcing he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
A month before his death, Eric Dane gave an interview to Netflix as part of the promotion of the series “Famous Last Words”. The interview was filmed in secret and broadcast only after the actor’s departure. Recall that Eric Dane had two daughters with his wife Rebecca Gayheart – Billie Beatrice Danewho will be 16 years old in March, and Georgiu Geraldine Danewhich will celebrate its 15th birthday in December.
Eric Dan’s last words to his daughters
“Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I tripped sometimes, but I tried. All in all, we had a great time, didn’t we?” he said. He talked about the days they spent at the beach and emphasized that he will remember them playing in the water. “Those days were paradise,” he emphasized. He then shared four life tips he learned during his battle with a serious illness and told his daughters to listen to him.
“First, live now, right now in the present. It’s hard, but I’ve learned to do it. For years I mentally wandered, lost in my own head for long periods, wallowing in fear, self-pity, shame, and doubt. I questioned my decisions, I questioned myself. I shouldn’t have done this, I should never have done that. Never again,” he stated. For “pure survival,” he said, he was forced to stay in the present. He added that the past contains regrets and the future remains unknown, therefore he noted that the only way to move forward is to live in the present. And cherish the moment.
“Second, fall in love. Not necessarily with a person, although I recommend that too. But fall in love with something. Find your passion, your joy. Find the thing that makes you get up in the morning,” he confessed. He told them that he fell in love with acting when he was their age and advised them to find their purpose and stick to it.
“Third, choose your friends wisely. Find your people and let them find you and then give yourself to them. The best of them will reciprocate. No judgement. Without conditions. No questions asked,” he continued. The actor said that he is very grateful to his friends who helped him during his illness. Although he explained that he couldn’t do many of the things he used to do — like go to the gym, drive around town or drink coffee — he was grateful to his friends for simply showing up. “Just come. And love your friends with all your heart. Stick with them. They will entertain you, guide you, support you and some will even save you,” he added.
In the end, he told his daughters to fight and never give up. “When something unexpected hits you—and it will, because that’s life—fight and face it with honesty, integrity, and grace, even when it seems insurmountable. I hope I’ve shown that you can face anything. You may face the end of your days. You can face hell with dignity. Keep fighting girls and keep your heads up. Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are everything to me. Good night. i love you Those are my last words” was heard in the heartbreaking video.
