Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Serbian Socialist Party (SPS) Ivica Dačič was hospitalized in Belgrade on Wednesday evening in a serious condition with severe pneumonia. informs TASR according to Thursday’s report by the TANJUG agency.

The Deputy Director of the Clinical Center for Lung Diseases, Spasoje Popevič, said on Thursday morning that Dacic is still in a serious condition, but compared to Wednesday evening, he is more stable. According to him, the minister is still on pulmonary ventilation and undergoing intensive treatment. “He is still in serious condition. The fight continues, he is connected to mechanical ventilation and now we have managed to stabilize his condition. However, it is too early for any predictions,” Popevič noted.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič and members of the Serbian government visited Dačič on Wednesday evening after his hospitalization at the clinic, adds TANJUG. Domestic media reports that the Minister of the Interior is in danger and his condition is complicated by diabetes and other health problems.

Dačič is the Deputy Prime Minister from 2022 and the Minister of the Interior from 2024. He joined the Socialists in 1991, while in the party ranks he worked his way up to spokesman after a year – at that time under the leadership of the former Yugoslav and later Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic. Dačič became the SPS leader in 2006.
