89 years old and who has been in the Hospiten Sur University Hospital in Tenerife due to an infection, will be discharged this Thursday, according to the Norwegian Royal Family: “His Majesty the King has responded well to the treatment and has been cured. He will be discharged from the hospital today,” the statement said.
The Royal House has reported that the monarch and his wife, Queen Sonia, will continue their vacation in Tenerife, where they had arrived a few days ago: “At the moment no decision has been made about the date of return. The king’s personal doctor will stay a few days in Tenerife to follow his evolution.” The institution has detailed that it will provide more information about his health next Monday if there is no news before then.
The king’s doctor, Bjorn Bendz, flew to Tenerife yesterday to examine him and stated in a statement that “the king’s general condition is good and he responds well to treatment,” and that the origin of the condition comes from a skin infection on one of his legs.
The Norwegian monarch already had to be due to an infection. Six days later he was transferred to his country on a plane and, in Oslo, a pacemaker was implanted. In recent years he has undergone several hospitalizations for infections of various types. In 2005 he had a tumor removed from his bladder and, years later, he also underwent surgery on a ligament in his knee.
