Do you need a special sprouter to grow sprouts? Turns out not. My friend told me that all I need is a jar. I love this method and from now on my whole family eats delicious sandwiches with this healthy addition.
Let’s start with this why is it worth eating sprouts? They are very inconspicuous, many people do not include them in their daily diet. It’s a big loss because Sprouts are a treasury of vitamins.
They are rich in antioxidants that neutralize free radicals – which, in turn, are responsible for the development of lifestyle diseases, including: cancer. It is definitely worth using them as often as possible – to reduce oxidative stress and strengthen immunity.
Sprouts are also rich in vitamins and minerals – especially vitamin C, B group, iron, potassium and selenium. Interestingly, sprouts contain about 40 times more of these substances than mature plants. How is this possible? During the germination phase, the reserve substances contained in the seeds are transformed under the influence of enzymes into simple compounds – more easily absorbed by the body.
Sprouts are also a solid portion of protein and fiber, making them allies of a reduction diet and supporting intestinal function. The condition of your hair, skin and nails can also improve by eating sprouts regularly.
Growing sprouts in a jar is simple – she demonstrated this patent my friend. First, pour the seeds into a larger jar and pour water over them. Leave in water for several hours.
The soaking time depends on the type of sprouts – for example, alfalfa sprouts are small and it is enough to soak them for about 4 hours. Sunflower sprouts, on the other hand, should be soaked for about 8-10 hours. While soaking the seeds, place gauze or a cap with a strainer on the jar. When the soaking time is over, pour out the water from the jar and set it upside down in a selected place in the kitchen. It is important to drain the water from the jar thoroughly so that the sprouts do not stand in the water. In turn, the mesh in the jar or gauze is used to drain water during rinsing, but also for proper ventilation.
For sprouts to develop, they need an appropriate amount of moisture. Because of this, you need to rinse them 2-3 times a day to prevent them from drying out.
How to rinse sprouts in a jar? Just place the jar under a tap with running water at room temperature, then pour out the water – you can then use it, for example, to water your house plants.
When the sprouts in the jar have grown enough, you can put them in the fridge in the jar and store them for a few days, up to a week. When you want to use the jar for growing sprouts again, remember to wash and sterilize it thoroughly.
Does it make any difference which seeds you choose? It turns out that the matter is not that simple. Before you decide to breed them, check which ones are suitable for it. This will help you avoid failure.
