President said, this Thursday (Feb 26), that the moment was “delicate” and that speeches about corruption in the tournament were “lies”
The president (PT) criticized this Thursday (26.Feb.2026) the booing that the then president (PT) received at the opening ceremony of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. During a speech at Palácio do Planalto, he classified the episode as “a very delicate moment” and said that the country needs “be redeemed” of what happened in that tournament.
Lula said the boos were “a rudeness” and who never imagined seeing that treatment at a party organized by Brazil. “People treated the president with disrespect”he declared.
The president also refuted allegations of corruption associated with the 2014 World Cup. He said that the Court of Auditors monitored the execution of works in 12 states and concluded that “there was no corruption”. For Lula, what happened to society was “a lie” which contaminated the atmosphere of the tournament.
Regarding the result on the field, it was ironic: “The only indication I have from that shower we took from Germany is that, if they wanted to play properly, they would have scored 3 or 4 more goals.”
