“We think this story is correct,” says Trump on news of Khamenei’s death

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Saturday (28) that “a good part” of Iran’s high-ranking leadership was killed in attacks carried out by the USA and Israel and signaled that he believes that the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is among the victims.

In an interview with NBC Newswhen asked about reports that point to Khamenei’s death in bombings in Tehran, Trump replied: “We feel that this is an accurate story.”

The president added that “the majority” of Iran’s top leaders “are gone.” “The people who make all the decisions, most of them are gone,” he said.

In another interview, with ABC Newswhen asked whether Washington believes the Iranian leadership was killed in the attacks, Trump said: “A lot of it, yes. We don’t know about all of it, but a lot of it, yes. It was a very powerful attack.”

When asked who could take charge in Tehran and whether a new leader has been identified, Trump responded: “Yes. We have a very good idea.”

A reporter from Fox Newsciting an American official, reported that the US believes Khamenei has died, as have between five and ten high-level Iranian leaders believed to have been killed in the first wave of Israeli strikes.

To date, however, there is no independent confirmation of Khamenei’s death by Iranian authorities or international organizations; outlets linked to the regime in Tehran accuse Israel and the US of waging “psychological warfare” by publishing reports about the leader’s death.
