This Monday (2), the third day of the war between the United States/Israel and Iran, attacks continued in several parts of the Middle East. At the beginning of this Tuesday (3), local time, Israel launched new offensives against Tehran, the Iranian capital.
Still in Iranian territory, the widow of supreme leader Ali Khamenei also died from injuries suffered in US and Israeli attacks. Mansoureh Khojasteh had been injured in the same attack that killed Khamenei.
According to a report released by Centcom (the United States Central Command), the US attacked at least 1,250 targets in the first 48 hours of the war.
Despite the scenario, Brazil’s ambassador to Iran, André Veras Guimarães, stated that no Brazilian citizen asked for help to leave the country.
Dubai airport announced the “limited” resumption of flights after a series of cancellations. On Sunday (1st), the terminal was the target of an Iranian attack and four people were injured.

Iran says at least 168 people were killed in an attack on a girls’ primary school in the south of the country, most of them children.

In Lebanon, Israeli bombings killed at least 52 people and injured 154. Israel claims to have killed the leader of Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shiite group that works with the support of Iran and fights Israeli forces.
In Israel, 19 people were injured in an Iranian attack in the south of the country.
According to the United States, the number of American soldiers killed reached six. They were hit in attacks on US bases in the Middle East.
What did Trump say?
This Monday, the President of the United States held the first press conference after the attacks on Iran began. He stated that the country has not yet begun to use its full attacking power. “The big offensive hasn’t come yet. The big wave is coming soon,” he said. Trump also did not rule out sending ground troops: “I say we probably don’t need them, but we will use them if necessary.”
Regarding the duration of the conflict, Trump stated that he does not want “this to drag on for too long”. “I always imagined something around four weeks. And, at this moment, we are even a little ahead of what we predicted. But we have the capacity to go much further than that.”
In the same vein, the US Secretary of Defense said that this war will not be endless. “This is not Iraq,” said Pete Hegseth, comparing the current conflict to the war that lasted about nine years.

What did the Iranians say?
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country “will not remain silent.” “I stand with my grieving nation. Iran will not remain silent or relent in the face of these crimes.”
The country’s Revolutionary Guard made two threats. First, he stated that the USA and Israel will not be safe anywhere in the world. Then, regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he said that Iran will set fire to ships that try to pass through the region.
In Brazil, Iran’s ambassador thanked Lula for criticizing the US and Israeli attacks. “We see this action on the part of the Brazilian government as an action that values human values, sovereignty, territorial integrity and also the independence of governments,” said Abdollah Nekounam Ghadiri.

What did they say around the world?
Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to use Moscow’s ties with Iran to try to help restore calm in the Middle East. The offer was made in telephone calls with leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for “maximum moderation”. “The situation on the ground is evolving rapidly and we are closely monitoring developments. (…) We urge maximum restraint and ask the parties to respect the cessation of hostilities agreement,” said a spokesperson for Guterres.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte praised the action of the US and Israel, but ruled out the possibility of the military alliance participating in the conflict.
