Brazilian sheikh approves Lula’s stance on war in Iran – 03/03/2026 – Panel

First Brazilian Shiite cleric, former candidate for councilor for the PT in São Paulo, evaluates the PT’s performance positively

Jalloul left the PT shortly after the 2024 election and says he was disappointed by the lack of support from activists for his candidacy, which he defines as religious.

“The Islamic revolution brought many privileges to religious people, and the Iranian people, who are very politicized, are uncomfortable. For example, the sheikhs are the ones who can buy meat. But they know that they are oppressors, they have interests, like in natural gas reserves”, he says.

For him, Lula is very good at diplomacy. “Today, he counts him as a friend. And Lula is right when he criticizes the Iranian government’s own attacks and does not legitimize the United States’ attacks”, he states.

He settled in Iran in 2007 and was in the country until he became a cleric. Jallou reports that he was deported from the Islamic Republic in 2013, without any official explanation. He says he was accused of acting as a spy for the United States.

Today, Jalloul is an advisor to the councilor and president of the São Paulo City Council, Ricardo Teixeira (União). “I left the PT disappointed, many don’t believe in religious candidacies, so much so that I campaigned independently. They just gave me a number and said ‘go'”, he says.
