Starch is used at home and in cosmetics. Few people would think that it can also be used in gardening. We obtain a homemade substance by combining 3 ingredients. Check the most important rules for sowing vegetables in starch.

We can sow vegetables with small seeds in starchwhich is difficult to spread evenly on the bed. What exactly is this about?

Sowing in starch has many advantages. Above all thanks to it, we precisely place the seeds in the soilavoiding excessive compaction. Young plants therefore gain more space to grow.

Another advantage is maintaining moisture in the soilwhich has a beneficial effect on germination. Moreover, this substance does not harm the environment because it is biodegradable.

However, remember that preparing the starch mixture is quite time-consuming. In addition we have to use it immediately after making itbecause it thickens quickly and loses its valuable properties.

In the first step prepare starch from 2 tablespoons of potato flour, 200 ml of cold water and 800 ml of boiling water. In what order should you combine these ingredients?

For starters dissolve potato flour in cold water. Mix until there are no lumps. Then add boiling waterstirring the liquid all the time. The starch will have the consistency of a gel. We cook it for a few minutesso that it is a uniform mass. Finally, set the mixture aside to cool.

In the next step, add the cooled starch add dry and clean seeds so that they are evenly distributed in the mass. Remember not to throw them all in at once – the consistency must remain thick.

Then let’s prepare the soil for sowing – it must be loose, moist and without weeds. We dig seed grooves on such a substrate with a depth appropriate for a given plant species. We apply the starch to them using an appropriate tool e.g. a kitchen syringe, a plastic bag with the corner cut off. We can also buy a special garden applicator.

Then cover the seeds with soilbut we do not whip it hard. At the end water the beds with a light stream of water.
