Declaration was directed at the Japanese government, which has already said it will attack in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan
The spokesperson for the APN (National People’s Assembly) – the Chinese equivalent to the Brazilian Congress –, Lou Qinjian, said this Wednesday (March 4, 2026) that the country “will never allow external forces to interfere in China’s internal affairs”. The statement was made to journalists after a question about how the country plans to move forward in this relationship after the crisis in November.
Decades after the Japanese Prime Minister, (Liberal Democratic Party, right), declared that if China invaded the island. Qinjian declared that China seeks the best possible relations with its neighbors, but said that Takaichi attacked Chinese sovereignty by speaking of Taiwan as if it were not Chinese territory.
Despite considering the Japanese government’s statements as serious, Qinjian recalled that Chinese policy with its neighbors is to try to preserve the best possible relationship to guarantee stability in the region.
“Neighboring countries are neighbors that cannot be separated. The way a major country interacts with its neighbors reflects its worldview, its conception of order and its values. China has always prioritized its neighborhood in its overall diplomacy and has consistently committed itself to promoting regional peace, stability, development and prosperity”he declared.
The APN spokesperson’s press conference takes place 1 day before the session of the Chinese Congress that will discuss, among other matters, the approval of the new PQN (National Five-Year Plan). The document will establish China’s main economic objectives over the next 5 years. The session starts on Thursday (5th March) and will conclude on March 12th.
ACENO TO HONG KONG
Qinjian said China’s legislature has promised to introduce more policies and measures that benefit Hong Kong. The spokesperson declared that the country will encourage the advantages of the island, which has already established itself as one of the main financial centers in the world.
Hong Kong has been a territory integrated into China since 1997 – after decades as a British colony. On the island, there is still a feeling of alienation and even rivalry with the Chinese among its residents.
A fact that drives this feeling of rivalry was the high Chinese investment to develop Shenzhen, a city neighboring Hong Kong that quickly became a technology hub that attracted companies outside the island.
“In the great transformation of the Chinese people and nation, from the struggle for independence to prosperity and empowerment, Hong Kong compatriots have never been absent”disse Qinjian.
