The municipality of Alcoutim will host, on the 12th and 13th of March, another edition of the Jornadas do Mundo Rural, an initiative dedicated to strategic reflection on the development of the territory and the challenges of rural areas.
In a statement, the Municipality of Alcoutim states that “the Jornadas do Mundo Rural return to Alcoutim as a space for strategic reflection, sharing of knowledge and building solutions for the future of the territory”.
This year’s edition focuses on the debate on sustainable tourism, territorial certification and the role of businesspeople and young people in local economic development.
Sustainable tourism and certification highlighted
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Alcoutim and will bring together experts, businesspeople, young entrepreneurs, associations and institutional entities, creating a space for dialogue between different perspectives on the future of the rural world.
In a territory characterized by rurality and connection with nature, the municipality considers that these journeys play an important role in defining strategies for local development.
Young people and entrepreneurs at the center of development
The municipality also highlights that the territory has asserted itself through its identity and environmental quality, highlighting that “in a context in which tourist destinations compete for authenticity, environmental quality and cultural identity, Alcoutim asserts itself as a valuable territory, where certification is not just a technical seal, but a collective commitment to sustainability, quality of life and the preservation of natural and human heritage”.

During the sessions dedicated to tourism, sustainable development models, good supply qualification practices and financing opportunities will be analyzed.
The Municipality of Alcoutim explains that “the sessions dedicated to tourism address sustainable development models, good practices for qualifying supply and financing opportunities, reinforcing the importance of certification as an instrument of external credibility and internal organization of the territory”.
The initiative also aims to strengthen the participation of local entrepreneurs and encourage the creation of cooperation networks that contribute to a more resilient rural economy.
According to the municipality, “by integrating local businesspeople into the debate, the Municipality intends to strengthen cooperation networks and stimulate a resilient rural economy, capable of generating income, retaining a young population and attracting responsible investment”.
Another of the central axes of the conferences is the involvement of youth in building the future of the territory. The municipality states that “one of the central axes of these Days is the involvement of young people, promoting their active participation in the construction of the rural future”.
The city hall adds that, through panels, testimonials and moments of interaction, the aim is to encourage “new ideas, entrepreneurial projects and creative solutions that intersect agriculture, technology, tourism and sustainability.”
In this sense, “Alcoutim is betting on a generation that values the land, but that thinks globally, young people capable of transforming demographic challenges into opportunities for social and economic innovation”.
The president of Alcoutim City Council, Paulo Paulino, highlights the importance of the initiative, stating: “The Jornadas do Mundo Rural are a moment to think about our territory with a strategic vision. Certification and sustainable tourism are not fads, they are essential tools to guarantee quality, differentiation and future. We want an economically active, socially cohesive and environmentally responsible municipality”.
The mayor also adds that “by involving businesspeople and young people, we are reinforcing the human basis of development. It is people who bring strategies to life and who make a balanced growth model possible, rooted in our identity.”
The Jornadas do Mundo Rural program is available.
