Laura’s leg problems were attributed by experts to a lack of exercise: A painful revelation! Behind everything was an insidious disease

In her words, Canadian Laura Kerr (41) was told by doctors that she had health problems because she was just too lazy. Her legs began to uncontrollably increase in volume. They repeatedly advised her to eat healthier and exercise more. There was actually another cause behind her torment. , to a desperate search for symptoms revealed on the Internet that he was suffering from an insidious and often overlooked disease.

  • Canadian Laura Kerr suffered from uncontrollably painful feet for years despite a healthy diet and exercise.
  • Finally, she found out that she was suffering from a condition called lipedema.
  • After the diagnosis, Laura radically changed her lifestyle.

No treatment worked

Laura, from Ontario, Canada, struggled for years with unexplained pain, swelling and fat accumulation in her lower body. “For a long time I knew something was wrong, but I couldn’t name it. My legs were heavy, painful and sensitive to the touch. I bruised easily, often for no apparent reason. My calves were disproportionately thick and no diet or exercise could change their shape“, she stated.

The influencer revealed that she tried everything her doctors recommended, but nothing helped. “On the surface it looked like I wasn’t trying hard enough. They told me to lose weight, exercise more, be patient, or that I just had a ‘pear shape.’ But none of this explained why my legs and arms were so thick, nor the overwhelming exhaustion that ruled my life“, she added.

The real turning point came when Laura entered perimenopause at the age of 35 and gained almost 23 kilos in two months despite eating healthy and exercising daily. “Only my legs got bigger. It was so sudden that my knees started to hurt,” she admitted.

Later, Laura decided to read up on her symptoms online. That’s when she made a shocking discovery. “I typed ‘painful and greasy legs’ into Google and came up with a word I had never heard before – lipedema. Immediately everything fell into place. I felt sad, but also a huge relief. I wasn’t flawed or lazy. I had a real health problem“, she emphasized.

Laura fully engaged in the study of lipedema – a long-term chronic disease in which fat and connective tissue accumulates abnormally in the legs, hips, buttocks or hands. She immediately began home treatment, and although the nurse told her there was nothing that could be done about it, she decided to keep looking for answers.

After the official diagnosis in 2021, the Canadian completely changed her lifestyle. She went on an anti-inflammatory diet to support gut health, did daily manual lymphatic drainage and managed to lose over 20 pounds.

After several months of treatment, Laura traveled to Poland, where she underwent an operation during which doctors removed up to 7.6 liters of diseased fatty tissue. Thanks to this procedure, she felt no pain for the first time in years. “Physical relief also healed something deeper. Years of shame, self-blame, and mental burden finally began to fall away from me. Lipedema has changed my relationship to food, exercise, rest and stress. I no longer punish my body, but on the contrary, I support it“, she stated.

Today, Laura urges people to be on the lookout for similar symptoms. “Start educating yourself in this area. Look for experts who really understand this disease. Stop blaming yourself and don’t punish your body with unnecessary and strict diets“, she concluded.
