Mongabay offers environmental journalism grants – 03/06/2026 – Novo em Folha

Journalists interested in covering environmental issues can register until March 31st at , da .

The initiative offers practical training to cover topics such as climate change, loss of biodiversity and socio-environmental conflicts.

The scholarship will last for six months, from June 1st to November 30th, 2026, and will be carried out remotely. Each participant will receive US$500 per month (around R$2,600) throughout the program.

Each fellow must dedicate around ten hours a week to the program and produce, on average, one report per month.

The program also includes training in environmental reporting techniques, preparing guidelines, searching for and interviewing sources, journalistic writing and debates on ethics, safety and protection of journalists. Topics covered include forests, oceans, wildlife, agriculture, extractive industries and the relationship between communities and nature.

Journalists fluent in Portuguese from tropical Portuguese-speaking countries can apply. No specific college training is required, but candidates must demonstrate an interest in environmental journalism and basic reporting and writing skills.
