The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) announced this Friday (6) that the Brazilian team will face Panama in its farewell to the country before traveling to the World Cup.
The friendly against the Panamanians will take place on May 31st, at Maracanã, and will serve as preparation for the World Cup, held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Like Brazil, Panama will also compete in this year’s World Cup. The Central American team is in Group L, alongside England, Croatia and Ghana.
“I think it is very symbolic that this farewell is on such an important and emblematic stage. Maracanã is the home of the Brazilian team, a stadium known throughout the world and which has always been the stage for great performances. Receiving the affection and support of the fans will be fundamental for the team, which will embark for the USA the next day”, commented Samir Xaud, president of the CBF.
“I really like Maracanã, it’s a grand stage, which carries a lot of history. We have everything we need to play a World Cup at a high level, we are preparing very well, the players feel proud to serve the national team and this exchange of energy before the dispute will be very good”, said coach Carlo Ancelotti.
After the match against Panama, Brazil will still face Egypt, on June 6, in Cleveland. It will be the Brazilian team’s last commitment before the start of the World Cup.
A week after the friendly with the Egyptians, Ancelotti’s team makes its debut in the World Cup, against Morocco. In addition to the African team, Scotland and Haiti are also in Group C of the competition.
