Those who have been following the uproar involving the MDB since last year have become accustomed to hearing from its main leader, former mayor Vagner Sales, that the party would not give up on having a candidacy for the Senate, participating in the majority ticket and also counting on support for its proportional tickets from one of the pre-candidates for the Government. It was a long journey until the party decided to support vice-governor Mailza Assis, even though she was courted by senator Alan Rick.
Until last week, Vagner maintained the hope of seeing his daughter, Jéssica Sales, in the race for the Senate, even though he knew that all the articulations pointed to the choice of senator Marcio Bittar, from PL, as the name of the second vacancy, with governor Gladson Camelí as the first.
No sooner said than done. Still this Friday. In practice, the double for the Senate is defined: Gladson Camelí and Marcio Bittar.
As a result, the MDB, which initially sought more space in the composition, ended up with what was possible to negotiate: support for proportional slates — which was confirmed to the report by the ContilNet by leaders linked to Mailza — and the possibility of nominating Jéssica Sales as vice-president on the majority ticket. It is important to highlight: this is a real possibility, but not yet a definition.

Without Jessica, the Senate race loses momentum
The race for the Senate loses strength without a candidate of Jéssica Sales’ caliber, especially for the work she did as a federal deputy and the electoral density she demonstrated in the last elections.

Sources linked to the government claim that the articulation between PL and Progressistas was not well received by Vagner Sales. Still, they recognize that the political scenario requires concessions in this type of negotiation.

According to one of these sources, the MDB cannot run the risk of losing its prominence again, as happened in the last election, and therefore the pieces on this political board must still adjust throughout the process.
MDB prepares strong sheets
Even without a candidacy for the Senate supported by the government, the MDB could surprise in 2026 with competitive tickets. One of the names considered strong is that of the former mayor of Rio Branco Marcus Alexandre, who is emerging as a possible candidate for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Acre (Aleac).
Furthermore, as the behind-the-scenes report found, the party should receive new big names in the coming days, especially given the possible disbandment that is taking place in the PSDB. Behind the scenes, the expectation is that new political movements will occur soon.
