The European Union expanded the sanctions list by dozens of persons and companies supporting the Russian war. It targets propaganda, shadow fleet and human rights violations in Russia.
The European Union on Monday approved the expansion of sanctions against individuals and entities that support the Russian war effort. TASR informs about it based on a Reuters report.
The EU added 34 new persons and 47 entities to the sanctions list. “These measures will limit the Russian military-industrial complex, reduce Russia’s income from the so-called shadow fleet and disrupt hybrid threats and the spread of Russian state propaganda justifying its aggressive war. At the same time, systematic repression and violations of human rights in Russia or violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention by this country will be revealed,” the European Council said on Monday.
New sanctions package
“A broader 21st package of sanctions is being worked on simultaneously. Each measure reduces Russia’s room for maneuver. And the numbers speak for themselves. Western sanctions have already cost Russia an estimated one to 1.3 trillion euros. Little by little, we are destroying the foundations of Russia’s war economy,” declared EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallasová.
The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, presented the 21st package of anti-Russian sanctions on Tuesday. One of the proposed measures is a ban on entry into the territory of the European Union for Russians who served in the armed forces after the start of the current war and participated in the invasion of Ukraine. The EC also proposes additional sanctions against Russia’s energy and banking sectors, as well as cryptocurrency networks.
