At an elementary school in Veľká Gorica, Croatia, a horror incident occurred during the big break. This is a tragedy that the city does not remember, writes the portal. As they confirmed to RTL Danas, the boy ate a classic donut at school and at one point began to choke.
The school principal is extremely shaken by the tragedy. According to what the students and teachers told him, he confirmed that the tragedy occurred during a long break when the boy took too large a bite of food and began to choke.
The director of the Emergency Health Service of the Zagreb County, Davorin Gajnik, told the Jutarnji list website that despite all efforts, it was not possible to help the child. “Our dispatcher received a call from the school. During the conversation, which lasted about four minutes, she gave instructions on how to help the child, and at the same time sent an emergency team with a doctor to the scene. The team left immediately and arrived fairly quickly, about ten minutes later, after which they began CPR,” Gajnik approached.
The entire procedure took almost an hour, but they were unable to save the child. “It is a great tragedy that has affected our staff. We express our sincere condolences to the child’s family, the teachers and all the children,” he added.
Doctor Sanja Kos, who participated in the intervention, also spoke. “The child was on a big break, alive, jumping, laughing. He was eating a donut and apparently inhaled a large bite into his airways. The children who were with him said that he turned blue, stopped breathing, lost consciousness and collapsed. The teachers called, who called an ambulance and started resuscitation.” she described the terrible moments.
When the emergency service team arrived, the teachers performed heart massage and gave artificial respiration to the student. The child was already blue at that time and did not respond to being addressed or touched. “He wasn’t breathing and his heart wasn’t beating. We continued CPR until we found that the child was unresponsive. There were also certain signs of death,” Kos concluded, saying that everyone was very sorry for the tragic outcome.
The resuscitation, which was started by the teachers and continued by the doctors, lasted about 45 to 50 minutes. With more severe suffocation, a person stops speaking, breathing and cannot inhale or cough.
“Then you have to give five blows with a soft palm between the shoulder blades on the back, each time checking whether the food has come out. If this does not help, the Heimlich maneuver is performed on a conscious person. You pass your hands under your armpits, press your fist firmly on the soft upper part of your abdomen, grab it with your other hand and do five push-ups backwards and upwards. After each attempt, check whether the food has come out,” advises the doctor.
