On Saturday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev thanked Slovak President Petr Pellegrini through the X social network for “principled stance and solidarity” after the Iranian attacks on the airport in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhichevan, writes TASR.
“I sincerely thank the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, for his principled stance and solidarity after the recent drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran on civilian infrastructure in Nakhichevan,” Aliyev wrote.
Azerbaijan also helped with the evacuation of Slovak diplomatic personnel from Tehran, which, according to Aliyev, is “a clear manifestation of high-level and strategic relations between the countries and an expression of commitment to international cooperation.”
In the post, the Azerbaijani president also published the letter he received from Pellegrini. “On behalf of the Slovak Republic and on my own behalf, I want to express my sincere solidarity with you in connection with the attack by an unmanned aircraft on civilian infrastructure in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, which endangered the civilian population,” the letter from the Slovak president said.
Pellegrini condemned the Iranian attack and called it unacceptable. He also thanked for “the help and hospitality provided by the (Azerbaijani) authorities to the (Slovak) diplomats evacuated from Tehran.”
