17-year-old gang rape suspect turns himself in in Rio

Young was the last of the 5 indicted for a crime that occurred in Copacabana; 4 other men are already arrested

A 17-year-old teenager accused of gang rape surrendered to the of Rio de Janeiro on Friday (March 6, 2026). He attended theand was seized. With this action, all 5 suspects of participating in the crime — which occurred in January 2026 in an apartment in Copacabana, in the South Zone — are in custody.

The adults arrested are 18 and 19 years old and will be charged with rape. The teenager will be responsible for an infraction similar to the same crime. According to the Civil Police, 2 other investigations were opened to investigate new allegations against the group.

The corporation stated, in a statement, that other victims contacted the police station to report crimes linked to those involved after the case was covered in the media.

The other 4 defendants were arrested earlier this week:

  • Matheus Veríssimo Zoel Martins e João Gabriel Xavier Bertho – delivered on Tuesday (March 3, 2026);
  • Vitor Hugo Oliveira Simonin e Bruno Felipe dos Santos Allegretti – performed on Wednesday (March 4, 2026).

Until the arrest of the 4th suspect, there was no arrest warrant issued against the teenager, although the police made 5 requests to the Justice on February 27, 2026.

THE CRIME

According to investigations, the victim, a 17-year-old teenager, was invited by the young man, who studied at his school, to go to a friend’s house. At the scene, she was reportedly locked in a room with 4 men. After refusing to maintain relationships, the group carried out libidinous acts through physical and psychological violence, reported the Civil Police.
