Women’s football: Brazil stops at the post and loses to Mexico in a friendly

In preparation for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, on national territory, Brazil closed the first FIFA Date of the season by losing to Mexico, 1-0, at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium, in Mexico City, on Saturday night (7).

The first half of the friendly was busy. In the seventh minute, Bernal saved a penalty after Ovalle was brought down in the area by Thaís Ferreira. The best Brazilian chances came with Jheniffer, at 37, hitting the crossbar; and Tainá Maranhão, at 47, hitting the foot of the left post.

In the final stage, Brazil once again came close to opening the scoring with Tainá Maranhão. At 14, he took a risk from outside the area, and the ball grazed the right post and went out. Those who ended up scoring, however, were the Mexicans. At 30, Espinoza took advantage of a corner from the left, went higher than the defense and tested to score the only goal.

The Brazilian Women’s Team had already played two other friendlies in recent days: on Friday (27), they beat , 5-2, at Alejandro Morera Soto, in Alajuela, Costa Rica; on Wednesday (4), they lost to , 2-1, at the CT of the Mexican Football Federation, in Toluca, Mexico.
