The governor of Minas Gerais and pre-candidate for the Presidency, Romeu Zema (Novo), stated this Monday (9) that the PL can join the PSD in supporting the candidacy of its vice-governor, Mateus Simões (PSD), to run for state government.
“My commitment is to vice-governor Mateus Simões, who will be a candidate for the PSD. He may be able to get along with the PL as well. So we can be moving along with the PL”, Zema said to Poder360 in Brasilia.
The closeness between Zema and the PSD increased after Simões joined the party. The party, with wide national coverage, already has three pre-candidates for the Presidency and may not help Zema directly in the dispute, but proximity in Minas could reinforce the governor’s electoral base in the state.
To the vehicle, Zema highlighted that the priority of his political group will be the election of Simões to the Minas Gerais government. “Within Minas, it is possible to walk together”, he stated when commenting on the possible support of the PL in MG.
The current governor also said he was confident in his vice’s performance in the state dispute. For Zema, Simões’ candidacy could increase the support of other parties even if União Brasil abandons the alliance if senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) switches parties to also run for state government.
Although he appears in electoral polls with modest numbers, Romeu Zema is trying to maintain the platform of his presidential candidacy in Minas, considered a key federative unit in the presidential dispute and which, in other years, was decisive for the election of the president who received the majority of votes in the state.

In the last one, released on Saturday (7), Zema appears in first round simulations with, on average, 4% of voting intentions. Although the number is low, it is close to the other candidates tested outside the polarization between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ)
