The party’s president, Edinho Silva, assesses that the measure gives room for the US to invade Brazil
The national president of the Workers’ Party, , criticized on Monday (March 9, 2026) the proposal of the president of the United States, (Republican Party), to classify criminal factions such as the PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital) and the CV (Comando Vermelho) as terrorist organizations. In a post on Instagram, the leader said there was a risk of Brazil being invaded and suffering economic sanctions from the North American country.
Edinho stated that US legislation underwent changes after the attacks on the Twin Towers in 2001, which opened space for action in any jurisdiction. “Therefore, if the United States feels affected, it can occupy any country”he declared.
In his understanding, the measure calls into question national sovereignty. “We cannot and will not accept Brazil being treated as an afterthought of the States Joined. We are not an annex to American interests […] No country has the right to invade another country, another territory. This is wrong. This means aggression, violence and often, we are seeing, this means trigger wars“he added.
Edinho also cited the Public Security PEC as a way for the Lula government to confront organized crime. “The Brazilian people are seeing that President Lula is doing the right thing and wants to fight crime in the entire country with intelligence and great firmness”these.
