Swiss police are investigating suspicions that he may have been from Tuesday a bus fire in the western Swiss town of Kerzers that killed at least six people and injured five others was deliberately set. TASR informs about it according to the reports of AP and DPA agencies.
Frédéric Papaux, spokesman for the Friborg cantonal police, said the bus fire, which broke out on Tuesday evening about 25 kilometers west of Bern, could have caused an unspecified “intentional act”.
“Information is circulating that one of the people on the bus spilled a flammable liquid and that this caused the fire. However, this is part of an ongoing investigation and is currently being clarified,” added Christa Bielmannová, representative of the police in Friborg, for Swiss television SRF. According to the statements of the cantonal police, there are still no indications that the fire could be a terrorist attack, the RTS station reported on Wednesday morning.
The regional bus was operated by PostBus, which is connected to the state post office. Images from the scene, published in Swiss media, showed flames spreading through the vehicle. “We are deeply touched by this tragic news. Our thoughts are with the victims, the injured and all the families,” PostBus said in a statement on its website.
According to police information so far, at least six people died in the fire, while identification of victims may take several days. The burnt wreckage of the bus was removed from the scene of the tragedy on Wednesday night and traffic returned to normal in the morning.
