SP City Hall opens public consultation on ‘Times Square’ project; understand

The Boulevard São João project, informally called “Times Square in São Paulo” is in progress. online public consultationopen by São Paulo City Hall until March 24th.

The initiative foresees the installation of large LED panels at the intersection of São João and Ipiranga avenues, in the central region, to display advertisements.

To participate in the public consultation, the interested party must be logged in to the City Hall system, select the alternatives and send their contributions. For those who are not logged in, it is only possible to view the responses of other participants.

Already approved by the Municipal Council for the Preservation of Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the City of São Paulo (Conpresp), the “Times Square in São Paulo” project will be discussed on Wednesday, 11th, at a meeting of the Urban Landscape Protection Commission (CPPU), the body responsible for applying the Clean City Law.

The planned panels have dimensions ranging from 300 to 1000 m², in four buildings: Cine Paris República, Herculano de Almeida, Galeria Sampa and Edifício New York. There must also be projections on the gable of the Independência II building, which houses Bar Brahma.

According to City Hall, the proposal foresees private investment of around R$6 million over three years.

Also included in the project are:

  • Restoration of the facades of the Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos Church and the statue of Mãe Preta (both in Largo do Paiçandu)
  • Restoration of the historic Nichile Clock (Praça Antonio Prado)
  • Installation of new banks and garbage bins along Avenida São João
